Child Life Specialists focus on the optimal development and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults while promoting coping skills and minimizing the adverse effects of hospitalization, health care, and/or other potentially stressful experiences. Traditionally, Child Life Specialists are employed by hospitals and clinics. As the value of holistic care increases, Child Life Specialists are becoming more common in dental offices, hospices, and private practice.
Using therapeutic play, expressive modalities, and psychological preparation as primary tools, in collaboration with the entire health care team and family, Child Life interventions facilitate coping and adjustment at times and under circumstances that might otherwise prove overwhelming for the child. To learn more about Child Life, visit the Association of Child Life Professionals.
In December 2020, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Association of Child Life Professionals issued a joint policy statement on the importance of child life services. Read about the policy and learn about the evolution of Child Life programs.

I am out-of-network with all insurance companies and do not accept any insurance directly. To determine if you are eligible for any out-of-network benefits with your policy that may partially reimburse you for services, I encourage you to contact your insurance company directly. During our consultation, I can discuss the CPT code specific for your child. All fees are due at the time of service. I can provide a super bill for your needs if you elect to file for out-of-network benefits. Those benefits would be paid directly to you. We will discuss your fee options at the end of your consultation call.

A typical session with me begins with a warm welcome in a waiting space that feels like home.
Designed with families at the heart of every detail you will find a comfortable spot to wait and a space that can meet what you need! Whether it is a cup of tea or coffee, a look through a beautiful book with escapes to the islands or a charging station to work while your child or teen is in their session, the entire families comfort is considered here. We have a “Brother / Sister Bench” in the waiting room full of activities, games and toys for all ages as well. All are welcome.
When your child or teen enters a session with me, our time is child or teen directed and goal driven. There are so many choices and I love to remind kids that we can play, create, explore and talk while we are learning. Whether we are processing big feelings or an upcoming surgery, a child or teen can make choices throughout a session while still accomplishing the goals we have established during our intake.

I typically work with children ages 3 and older in the office. If there is a specific diagnosis, procedural or surgical need for an infant or toddler younger than 3, I am always happy to discuss those as well.
